Are you kidding me?!
For a few minutes on Tuesday, it seemed like Amazon might actually have been playing an April Fools joke on everyone.
The online shopping giant announced a new hardware product called the Dash Button. It’s a little device, stamped with the name of a household brand, which customers can place on a flat surface and tap to automatically order (or more likely re-order) a specific product.
It will be available on Wednesday across the U.S. on an invite-only basis – though they are exclusively for Prime members. The free plastic gizmo is slightly larger than your thumb and connects to Wi-Fi; when you press it, the device will automatically order another pack of your shaving cartridges or bottle of your face moisturizer from Amazon Prime.
